National Terrier

John Parker (Nettleworth)

I have owned Staffordshire Bull Terriers for over 35 years. The first two were much loved pets and lived to the ripe old age of 16. Twenty-two years ago, we acquired another dog (Rumrourke Rubino) and we promptly joined our local SBT Club and started to attend shows. A year later we acquired another this time a bitch called Marstaff My Fair Lady. We showed the two dogs only lightly but enjoyed our days out.

In late 2006 our dog was used for stud and we decided to have a bitch puppy back. This was Rumrourke Rubiwax of Nettleworth who we campaigned to her KC SBN. We mated her twice keeping both singleton puppies her first pup was Nettleworth Nitty Gritty JW She gained her Junior Warrant and SBN at just 10 months of age.

Nitty Gritty was mated three times and produced Nettleworth No Way Ho Zay  J.W. (owned by Fred Hines) who I handled to his JW myself. His litter sister Ch Nettleworth No Nonsense JW (owned by Arthur and Gina Duncan) has been exceptional winning best puppy 2014, best Junior 2015. I was very proud in having 2 dogs represent the UK at the International Match in Holland in 2015.

Nity Gritty also produced 3 more CC winners / SBN winners /  Crufts Qualifiers. I also had the pleasure of handling Champion Elitebull Black and Brass JW. to his title

In 2020 bought 2 youngsters which became: -

Ch. Jackabyte Boletoro at Nettleworth who currently has 4 CCs and 5Rccs

Ch Elitebull Mojito at Nettleworth 12CC’s and 7 Rccs

I have been judging SBT, since 2010 and recently awarded CCs in the UK for the first time.

Bianca Janssen

Bianca Janssen lives in the Netherlands and was appointed an FCI judge for the Staffordshire Bull Terrier in 2004. Since then, she has judged the breed at shows around the world. Her appointment at the Birmingham National Dog Show will be her fifth judging appointment in the UK. Since 1999 Bianca and her husband have carried the Staffjoy’s prefix, with their first litter born in 2001. Over the years they have bred and/or co-owned more than 20 Staffordshire Bull Terriers that achieved the champion title in a variety of colours. They have also (co-)owned four Staffordshire Bull Terrier of the Year winners, based on the ratings of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club Netherlands, and obtained UK Stud Book numbers with their dogs. Bianca continues to enjoy participating in shows as an exhibitor, as the preparation, conditioning and teamwork with her Stafford in the ring remain incredibly rewarding and help keep her sharp in her role as a judge. She is currently back on the committee of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club Netherlands. As a judge, Bianca approaches every appointment with great respect and will always strive to carry out her task to the best of her abilities. She has a strong appreciation for the effort exhibitors put into presenting their Staffordshire Bull Terriers at their very best, as well as for the dedication of breeders striving to breed in accordance with the breed standard. She looks forward to meeting exhibitors and their Staffordshire Bull Terriers and to judging this wonderful breed on the day, and warmly welcomes exhibitors to approach her afterwards, as she truly enjoys talking Staffordshire Bull Terriers with like-minded enthusiasts.

The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is a breed defined by its courage, intelligence, and unwavering affection for its family. For our family, this connection began in the 1990s, marking the start of a lifelong dedication. Since then, the Stafford has remained the sole focus of our canine endeavors; for us, there simply is no other breed that possesses the same unique blend of tenacity and temperament.

My commitment to the breed has also been reflected in my service to the breed community. I have been a dedicated member of the Southern Counties Staffordshire Bull Terrier Society, serving in various capacities from committee member to Vice Chairman. This administrative involvement allowed me to give back to the breed and support the community that fosters its welfare and standard.

My transition from an exhibitor to a judge was a deliberate and measured progression. I began my judging journey in 2007, officiating at Open and Limit shows. From the outset, I felt it was imperative to undertake a thorough and "proper" apprenticeship. I was in no rush to advance prematurely, believing that a deep understanding of the breed standard and its nuances requires time, observation, and humility.

During this formative period, I was fortunate to receive the guidance of several breed stalwarts. These mentors offered invaluable knowledge and historical perspective, helping me refine my eye and maintain the integrity of the breed. Their support was instrumental in helping me reach my professional goals within the show circuit, eventually leading to my appointment as a Championship show judge in 2021, where I had the honor of officiating at the Richmond Championship Show.

Beyond the judging ring and committee room, our involvement in breeding and exhibiting has been equally rewarding. We have been privileged to breed and own numerous Stud Book winners, Challenge Certificate (CC) winners, and Reserve CC winners. Our success has been recognized both in the United Kingdom and abroad, where we have produced several Champions.

The pinnacle of our showing achievements occurred in 2021 at Crufts. To breed the Bitch CC winner and ultimately be awarded Best of Breed at the world’s most prestigious dog show was a moment of immense pride. It served as a testament to our commitment to breeding Staffords that are correct in type, sound in movement, and exemplary in character. Our journey continues to be driven by a profound respect for the breed's heritage and a desire to see it flourish for generations to come

Alport Staffords were created in 1993. Presently, we have bred 4 UK Champions and 4 foreign Champions. We have been honoured to have dogs such as Alport Hurricane and Alport The Sandman, behind many French and Italian Champions. We have consistently bred dogs that have been highly awarded and have received many Studbook numbers over the years.
Alport dogs have lived in France, Italy, Australia, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Spain and Finland
In 2018 our Swedish-bred bitch Ch Crudha Nordic Star was the Best Of Breed at Crufts, and she has had the most tremendous show career.  We had Ch Alport Highlander crowned in the UK, and his brother Alport Bold Ruler sits on 1 RCC and more recently, his brother Alport Black Magic in Sweden became a Swedish Ch. All 3 are the sons of Ch Crudha Nordic Star.
Our other bitch, Moonlight Shimmer of Dark Lands (FRA), gained 1 CC and 1 RCC before Covid struck. She has gone on to breed some lovely litters. Her son Alport On Tour sits on 2 RCC's and both his sisters, Alport Dark Queen, who is doing really well in the ring. And sister Alport Cerridwen, who lives in Spain, became the top Spanish Junior and was recently crowned a UK Champion.
I have judged here in the UK and also in Czech, Denmark, Budapest, France, Poland, Australia and America.
It has been a great honour to have the opportunity to judge Staffords all over the world, and my passion for the breed has brought so many rewards. It is a wonderful breed and has such a huge fan club, and long may it continue.
